Space, the Music and Creation

Sundays are always surreal for me. Usually in a good way. Not always. Sundays are the end and the beginning of a "chunk" of "time." Space music is always on the dial via Echoes and Hearts of Space. That being said, I must explain what the term "space music" means to me. Though the music is "spacey" and some may consider it music from "outer-space," that's not the whole picture or full meaning. "Space music" to me is music that creates a space; music that creates a space within one's thoughts. At it's best, it creates a SPACE in one's psyche that is meant for meditation, reflection, creative function and spacial separation from the current moment. Thus a "space" is created via music. A space to dwell in and separate yourself from everyday "reality."

Now I do not want to take away from the obvious spacey tones and otherworldly soundscapes. They are very much what most can only describe as  "space music." It is spaced out. It is futuristic, mind-expanding, music that one may consider from another world and an OmniVerse that few travel. Ambient noise and complicated atmospheres are created, sometimes in a very minimalistic way. Space music helps one travel places without a spaceship or time machine. Delving into said-music in the deepest way allows one to make a "SPACE" separate from the space that is "normal" and "common" to most. It is the vessel to the OmniVerse. It is a means to escape.

Space music is the harmony that launches deep thoughts and intensity which calms one's soul. Drift away. Space out. Create. Chill. Create a new space and infinite dimensions.

I create space and ambient music. I listen to many types of space and ambient music. Consider listening to my bands/projects via the links on this blog page. Moreover, treat yourself to wonderful programs such as "Hearts of Space" and "Echoes."

"Spacemusic can relax the body while stimulating the imagination. Restorative powers are often claimed for it, and at its best it can create an effective environment to balance some of the stress, noise, and complexity of everyday life.
Unlike conventional background music, spacemusic does not depend on simple nostalgia (in the words of Brian Eno) "to induce calm and a space to think." Rather, it builds expansive sound images from refined timbres and offers subtle psychological resonances.
From abstract electronic soundworlds to the romantic grandeur of orchestral soundtracks, from classical adagios to delicate jazz improvisations, Hearts of Space ranges across the music of hundreds of artists to create experiences of quality and depth." -- Stephen Hill ("Hearts of Space" Founder/Producer)

"Even though I am a redneck, I enjoy your program." (HOS Listener)

"Echoes is a daily two-hour music soundscape, distributed by Public Radio International and broadcast on 130 radio stations from Maine to California. With host John Diliberto, a writer forBillboard, Pulse and other magazines, Echoes brings together a wide array of styles, from acoustic to electronic, jazz to space music, the avant-garde to rock. Echoes is a sound that is cross-cultural and trans-millennial, merging cultures and forms, technology and tradition, the ancient past and the possible future." -- John Diliberto (Echoes Founder/Producer)
